Our Lives Began in Kleinburg

On March 21, 2009, which also happened to be the first day of Spring that year, we gave up our respective lives as singletons to become life & travel partners. We celebrated our 8th Anniversary earlier this week and wanted to share our pictures and memories with you. Here’s a recap of our Wedding Day at The Doctor’s House in Kleinburg.

In case you were curious about the history behind the name, The Doctor’s House was home to several Doctors before it became a restaurant and event venue.

We knew we were going to have a small wedding and chose The Doctor’s House in Kleinburg because it was close to both our respective family homes and also featured a wedding chapel and reception venue on site. In early Spring, Kleinburg is still fairly quiet on a Saturday afternoon and this quaint little village allowed us to take our wedding pictures, without interruption, even in the middle of the road (see below). This “one-stop shop” allowed us to get married, take our wedding pictures and host a reception all on the same property. This totally made for a stress-free wedding day!

A visit to Kleinburg is ideal for a wedding, a date or a day trip. There is plenty to see, shop, experience and eat.

The other famous attractions in Kleinburg include the McMichael Art Gallery & the Kortright Centre for Conservation.

Kleinburg is also know for the Binder Twine Festival which is held annually on the second Saturday of September. The Festival began in the late 1800s when Farmers would come to Kleinburg to buy binder twine to bind their sheaves of wheat. One of the shop owners, Charlie Shaw, started offering these Farmers food and entertainment which is how the Festival got its name. The Festival stopped for several years however was restarted in 1967 and continues to be held every years thanks to volunteers. The one-day Festival features arts, crafts, entertainment and the selection of the Binder Twine Queen.

Getting There

If you’ve never been to Kleinburg then you’re definitely in for a pleasant surprise when you visit this small village in the City of Vaughan.

Our Recommendation

Walk through the gardens on The Doctor’s House property, especially if your visit is when the plants & trees are in full bloom.
Walk along the main strip and browse through the many independent boutiques.
Visit the old Kleinburg Railway station.
Dining al-fresco once patio season is in full swing at one of the many restaurants or cafes.
Give yourself a driving tour of the fall colours in late September or early October.
Treat yourself to a cappuccino or scoop of gelato from Dolcini.

Kleinburg is a year-round destination and every season offers its visitors a unique experience. This small village will always hold a special place in our hearts and we hope you get a chance to experience its charm!
